What to look for when selecting a Lash Training

With the increase of beauty pros transitioning to Lash Artists, comes the increase in trainings that everyone is promoting. Education is key to the success of professionals in their respective industry however, with technical hands on services like lash extensions, training needs to be at the top of the list….scratch that, continued education needs to be at the top of the list. With everyone promoting lash trainings, how do you know which training to choose from? The process can be overwhelming. I’ve noted a few points below to consider when selecting a lash training:

  1. Is this company reputable?

With so many trainings available to choose from, you need to know if this company is reputable? Are they licensed to perform trainings? Does the state require them to have a license to teach? Are they licensed to perform lash extensions (I .e licensed esthetician or cosmetologist)?

  2. Do you see their work online or on social media?

You’ll want to see their work, extensive amounts of pictures to get a general idea of their work and if they know what they are talking about. Normally, trainers “educate” their audience quite a bit to let prospective students as well as clients know what they are talking about.

  3. Are you able to get reviews?

Reviews are important. Ask the trainer, if they can send you a few people that can give honest reviews on their classes and speak to the previous student to get their prospective. If the trainer declines, that’s a sure sign to RUN!!!

  4. How long have they been training?

You’ll want to select a trainer that has some skin in the game. This is important to the success of our lash business. Stay away from trainings that have trainers that have just started training . If you desperately want to take their class, wait and let them work out the training kinks and figure out a groove before signing up.

  5. How long have they been lashing?

This is probably one of the most important aspects when looking for a training. Most people see training as a cash cow and want to jump right into training rather than learning the lash craft/technique fully first. Stay clear of this type of trainer. They are just in it for the money and not the love of educating/teaching or developing lash artists.

  6. How many students will be in the training?

Im a HUGE component that less is best. If you take a class that has over 10 students, you are doing yourself a disservice and you will have a hard time learning and understanding because the teacher will not have enough time to dedicate to you like you want. Your first class(or two) should be an intimate class with less than 10 students to help everyone out and ensure you get as much 1:1 time as possible.

  7. Last but certainly not least, what is the cost of the lash training? Good lashes aren’t cheap and cheap lashes aren’t good. This applies to lash trainings as well. The average lash training when researching should be anywhere from $900+ why? Because skilled lash artists and trainers KNOW THEIR WORTH!! They know the time it takes to put into training manuals. content, presentations, and the overall class as well. Most classes are 2 days, in my professional experience, unless you are taking a refresher course, your class should be 2 days. Even in 2 days, you can’t teach EVERYTHING so anything less than that is a disadvantage to the student. Pricing is important to the overall quality of the training as well as the training materials and supplies that are provided at the course.

With these 7 tips, you should be able to make a smart decision on the trainings that are available. There are so many QUALITY trainings out there and yes they can be costly. However, if you want to start off on the right foot its going to save you time and money if you do it right the first time versus looking for something cheap. If the class is expensive, create a saving system or ask if they have a payment plan to ease the financial burden. Most trainings have various payment plans available.
