Is Brow Lamination the new alternative to Microblading?

The beauty industry has definitely been growing with new and instagram worthy trends to include one: Brow Lamination. This particular service has been around for the past few years and I must admit, I didn’t think it would last but I was wrong and have even found a true interest in this service because of the benefits and the final results. In this blog, I’ll be discussing what is brow lamination, the benefits of the service, after care and the difference in brow lamination versus microblading.

What is Brow Lamination?

It is a smoothing effect by using chemicals to semi-permanently set the eyebrow hairs in a vertical direction, making them appear brushed up. Simply put it’s like a BROW PERM but instead of making your brows curly or wavy the main purpose is to straighten unruly, crazy brows. Basically, if your hair strands are forever growing in an unruly direction, you've got gaps, or were victim to the over-plucking era then that's exactly where brow lamination comes in to help solve that. Brow lamination softens the hair follicle using a chemical solution and then re-shapes, or sets, it into a more refined, lifted, smoother shape leaving you with a perfect brushed up brows that give a fuller, more uniform and defined look.

What are the benefits of Brow Lamination?

  • Long lasting (up to 8 weeks)

  • Non-invasive

  • Aesthetically pleasing shape

  • Smooth unruly hairs

  • Not permanent

  • Low maintenance

In addition to smoothing the hairs out, you can also re-shape the brows a little during lamination; for example raising the arch or lowering the tail to get your desired shape.

What is the aftercare process?

As anything you want to ensure you know what to do AFTER you leave your brow artist. No one wants to spend their hard earned money and not be able to OR know what’s needed in order to care for their brows to ensure longevity of the service. Aftercare for this service is pretty simple. I always suggest not getting the brows wet for the first 24 hours; washing around the area is best. After the 24 hours, you want to make sure you hydrate the brow area using oil. Due to the chemicals involved in the process, it can be pretty rough on your brows with constant continued use and improper aftercare — the potential to over-process will result in dry, frazzled hairs. Every brow artist is different and will have their own aftercare process. Be sure to check with your brow artist for their aftercare recommendations.

What’s the difference in microblading versus brow lamination?

We all want to have a simpler, faster and better daily beauty regimen. We want something with little work and less maintenance. Microblading is the choice for long wearing, low maintenance and longevity but some people are not ready for the more permanent look so brow lamination is the in-between service that will allow you to wake up with less brow work however, because this service has chemicals involved, over time it can get rough on your brows especially with improper aftercare. Microblading lasts anywhere from 1-3 years while Brow Lamination lasts up to 8 weeks.

I suggest scheduling a brow consultation with your brow artist. Discuss your brow needs and concerns for you both to make a decision on a service that’s best for you.
